Is anyone still checking this blog? After over a year without a post I wouldn't expect anyone to. I have switched my focus to a page on Facebook. With limited time on my hands it seemed the best way for me to reach a wider audience quickly. I post regularly. So, if you are a fan of Pigeon Road Pottery wander over to my page on Facebook You'll find photo albums full of pots in process as well as finished work. You'll find current show information, links to other potter's work and so much more. Following are some photos of work completed in 2011 and 2012. Thanks, and I hope to see you on Facebook!
Throwing clay is exhilarating. On the first night I sat at a potter’s wheel, the feeling of wet clay spinning through my fingers drew me in. With my hands I can form a bowl, cup or plate from a lump of clay. Years later, it still amazes me.
I was strictly a two-dimensional artist until I touched clay. Now I wrap illustrations and patterns around three-dimensional forms. The marriage of two disciplines fascinates me. Creating the right balance is my focus.
My choices are influenced by my surroundings. I walk in the woods looking for unexpected bursts of color. I stalk antique stores searching for fresh forms. I touch produce at the market. I observe patterns in textiles and architecture. I study well-made objects.
The reward is hearing that my piece has in a special spot in someone’s home, but is also used at their table. Decorative. Functional. Fine art for an everyday purpose.
